Introduction

Discovered in Dive Agar, Raigad district, Maharashtra, this stone epigraph displays a relief of the sun, moon, and a kalaśa above the text, with an imprecatory ass-curse sculpture below. Engraved in the Nāgarī script utilising Sanskrit, the charter belongs to the reign of mahāmaṇḍaleśvarādhipati Anantadeva III.

Issued on the eighth tithi of the dark fortnight of Aṣāḍha, cyclic year Ānanda in Śaka 1176 (1254 CE), the record states that the local subordinate, Rāma māṇḍalika, transferred the rights of an orchard (vāṭikā) to Gaṇapati nāyaka in Dīpaka village (modern Dive Agar). This property was granted as a subsistence estate (vṛtti) through the traditional ritual of pouring water over the recipient's hands. The text precisely delineates the physical boundaries of the granted orchard, noting specific adjacent properties such as the agricultural field belonging to Śrīdhara on the southern perimeter.
